Sharing your Christmas makes you a force for Christ

USA (MNN) —  Put yourself in this scenario: you live in a town between Russia and Ukraine. Tensions boiled over in August 2014, and nothing has been the same since.

You’re on the run. You’ve been separated from your family, and you are alone in an orphanage. The holidays are no more holy than other days. What used to have warm and meaning has been pushed aside in favor of survival.

Chris LaForce and his wife founded Force for Christ Orphan Outreach (FFC) last year to help make a difference for kids like these. He says, “Many of them have suffered loss; they’ve been moved around. They would love nothing more than to come to an atmosphere of love and really celebrate over the holidays.” This is the reality facing kids who’ve lost their “normal” to the war in Ukraine. Local organization bringing 60 orphans from Ukraine to U.S. for summer stay

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) -- You can change the lives of children, just by giving them a safe, loving home for the summer. 60 orphans in Ukraine are waiting for their chance to come to the United States.

A local organization is behind the effort, and is looking for families to help make a big difference. In a war-torn country, caring for orphans often goes by the wayside.

“Many of the environments and facilities are dilapidated and run down,” said Chad LaForce, who’s organizing the effort with his wife, Liz. Read more...

Hope is hanging by a thread in Ukraine

Ukraine (MNN) — Ukraine has been in crisis for two years now, with no reprieve in sight.

“They’re fighting a conflict on multiple fronts, not just from aggression in the east, but also from being a fairly new democracy and also having dealt with some corruption from within their own high up ranks and their own high up officials,” says Chad LaForce with Force for Christ.

The Ministry of Infrastructure offered money to corrupt businessmen who had connections with Ukraine’s parliament, government reformer Andriy Pyvovarsky reported.

Ukraine’s economy has taken a plunge after the corruption, and crisis broke out. Exchange rates have taken drastic swings. Currently, one Ukrainian Hryvnia is equal to about three U.S. cents. Read more...

Ukrainian children experience a loving family

Ukraine (MNN) — The ongoing crisis in Ukraine has been the reason for an increasing number of broken families and orphaned children.

Backyards have been turned into warzones. More than 8,000 have been killed since it’s start in 2013 and 2 million more have fled their homes in eastern Ukraine. Suffice it to say, civilians have been most affected by the war.

Force for Christ recently visited orphanages in Central Ukraine where thousands of refugee children fled to from the east. “We met many refugee children, and [the war is] hard on them,” says Chad LaForce with Force for Christ. Read more...
